Synopsis
Open Hearts (Elsker dig for evigt, 2002) is a Danish drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Susanne Bier — later an Oscar winner — made this film under the Dogme 95 rules: handheld camera, natural light, no artificial sets.
Cecilie and Joachim are days away from getting married when a street accident leaves him paralysed. In the hospital, Cecilie meets Niels (Mads Mikkelsen), the husband of the driver responsible. Grief and guilt pull them closer than either is prepared for. When other people's lives are already broken, does it matter if yours breaks too?
The film won the Danish Bodil Award and helped launch Bier's international career — Brothers, After the Wedding, In a Better World. Mikkelsen here is a long way from Bond villains and Hannibal Lecter: raw, uncertain, very human. Open Hearts is a film about the decisions people make when they're not thinking straight, and how those decisions echo. Stream it online on iFILM.
