Synopsis
Normal People (2020) is the Irish romance drama you can watch online on iFILM, adapted from Sally Rooney's novel across twelve half-hour episodes. It follows a love that never quite works and never quite lets go.
Their school sits in the small town of Carricklea. Connell is the quiet star of the football team, and his mother cleans the house where Marianne lives. Marianne herself is sharp, guarded, wealthy and entirely alone. The two start something in secret, too embarrassed to admit it in front of classmates. Then university in Dublin flips their roles: now she fits in, and he is the lost outsider. The series tracks the pair over several years, through breakups, other partners, depression and all the things neither one learns to say out loud. Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones carry it almost wordlessly, on glances alone.
Lenny Abrahamson, director of Room, shot half the episodes and set the tone: the camera stays close, and silence weighs more than dialogue.
