I Know This Much Is True (2020) — watch online on iFILM, the HBO limited series directed by Derek Cianfrance. Mark Ruffalo plays both identical twin brothers: steady, practical Dominick and his mentally ill brother Thomas, whose breakdown in a public library sets the whole story in motion.

The six episodes move between two timelines. Dominick's life in the late 1990s runs alongside the multigenerational saga of their Italian-American family across the twentieth century. A handwritten memoir left by their grandfather holds secrets that slowly explain how the family fractured. Melissa Leo, Imogen Poots, and Archie Panjabi round out a cast that never lets the drama tip into soap opera.

Cianfrance previously made Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines — both stripped-down, face-first films about people failing each other.
