Synopsis
Set It Off (1996) is an American crime drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director F. Gary Gray follows four Black women in Los Angeles — Stony (Jada Pinkett Smith), Cleo (Queen Latifah), Frankie (Vivica A. Fox) and Tisean (Kimberly Elise) — pushed to a breaking point by poverty, loss and a system that never gave them much to begin with.
Each woman carries a specific wound. Frankie loses her bank job after a robbery she had no part in. Stony's brother dies in a police shooting. Tisean's son is taken by child services. When the four decide to rob banks, Gray never frames it as liberation — the film tracks what each heist costs and where the logic of no-other-option eventually leads. Blair Underwood plays Stony's love interest, a banker who represents the life she can't reach by legitimate means.
Queen Latifah earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance, and the film holds up as one of Gray's sharpest works before he went on to Straight Outta Compton and Fast & Furious 8. Watch Set It Off (1996) online on iFILM.
