Synopsis

Torn Curtain (1966) is Alfred Hitchcock's Cold War spy thriller, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Paul Newman and Julie Andrews lead a story that starts with a betrayal nobody saw coming: an American rocket scientist seems to defect to the East.

Professor Michael Armstrong crosses into East Germany posing as a turncoat. His real errand is to pry an anti-missile formula out of a Leipzig physicist, Gustav Lindt. The cover cracks when his fiancée Sarah, kept in the dark, chases after him over the border. Suddenly two lives hang on a bluff that could fall apart at any handshake, with watchers everywhere and no clean way home.

Hitchcock stages his suspense without a score and without gunfire where you expect it. The notorious farmhouse killing drags on and on, making the simple act of taking a life feel brutally hard. Released two years after Marnie, the picture remains one of the most overlooked entries in the director's late run. Stream Torn Curtain (1966) online on iFILM.
