Synopsis

Watch The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934) online on iFILM — Alfred Hitchcock's British spy thriller with Leslie Banks and Edna Best. Seventy-six minutes, shot at Gaumont-British studios, and one of the director's earliest exercises in sustained dread.

Bob and Jill Lawrence are on holiday in St. Moritz when a man they've just befriended is shot dead in front of them. His dying words are a fragment of intelligence about a planned assassination. Before the Lawrences can act on what they heard, their daughter is taken — a clean message to stay quiet. Tell the police, lose the girl. Say nothing, and a diplomat dies at a London concert hall.

Hitchcock remade the story himself in 1956 with James Stewart and Doris Day — and once described the original as the work of a talented amateur and the remake as the work of a professional. The 1934 version is leaner and stranger. Stream The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934) on iFILM.
