About

Synopsis

Marnie (1964) is Alfred Hitchcock's psychological thriller you can watch online on iFILM. A young woman takes a job under a false name, earns everyone's trust, then vanishes with the company's cash and shows up somewhere new with different hair and fresh papers.

Marnie Edgar (Tippi Hedren) is a thief who lets no one near her. The only cracks in her armor are the way she freezes at a thunderstorm, the color red, or a man's touch. When she hires on at Mark Rutland's publishing firm, he recognizes the clerk who once robbed an associate of his. Instead of calling the police, Mark blackmails her into marriage, obsessed with the idea of solving Marnie and curing her. The deeper he digs, the closer he gets to a childhood secret her mind locked away long ago.

The film adapts Winston Graham's novel, with a screenplay by Jay Presson Allen and a score by Hitchcock's regular composer Bernard Herrmann. It's one of the director's strangest and most psychoanalytic films: stylized rear projection, an openly artificial look, and a final revelation in place of his usual suspense. Late, chilly, divisive Hitchcock that critics keep circling back to. Stream Marnie (1964) online on iFILM.
