Psycho III

Psycho III (1986) is the third installment in the Bates Motel franchise — watch it online on iFILM. What sets this entry apart: Anthony Perkins, who had played Norman Bates since Hitchcock's original, stepped behind the camera to direct himself. A runaway nun named Maureen Coyle checks into the motel. She looks startlingly like Marion Crane. That's a problem.

Diana Scarwid plays Maureen, Jeff Fahey arrives as a drifting musician who ends up on the payroll. Perkins directs with a cold, stylized eye — long static shots, hard cuts, a neon-lit noir feel that sits at odds with the rural nowhere setting.
