Synopsis

The Black Hole (1979) is Disney's big-budget science-fiction adventure, and you can watch it online on iFILM. On its way back to Earth, the explorer ship Palomino drifts to the rim of a black hole and finds a vessel that vanished twelve years earlier, somehow holding its ground against the pull.

The crew boards the silent ship Cygnus. Aboard it: rows of machines and a single survivor, Dr. Hans Reinhardt, played by Maximilian Schell. Brilliant, charming, and not quite sane, he means to fly straight into the hole — and he is willing to take everyone with him. Anthony Perkins, Robert Forster and Ernest Borgnine round out the astronauts who grasp the danger far too late.

Directed by Gary Nelson, this was one of Disney's first films aimed past the youngest viewers, and its bizarre, dreamlike ending still sparks arguments among fans. Roddy McDowall, the voice from Planet of the Apes, speaks for one of the robots. Stream The Black Hole (1979) online on iFILM.
