Synopsis
Young Adult (2011) is a tragicomedy directed by Jason Reitman that you can watch online on iFILM. Written by Diablo Cody — their follow-up to Juno — the film stars Charlize Theron as Mavis Gary: a ghostwriter of young adult fiction, recently divorced, living in Minneapolis with a tiny dog and a very high opinion of herself.
When Mavis hears that her high school boyfriend Buddy has just had a baby, she packs a bag and drives back to Mercury, Minnesota, to win him back. Buddy, played by Patrick Wilson, is happily married and has no idea what's coming. The only person in town who genuinely wants Mavis around is Matt Freehauf — Patton Oswalt, quietly devastating — a classmate who was beaten up in high school and never quite recovered from it. Their scenes together carry the film.
Reitman and Cody refuse to soften Mavis or explain her away, which is unusually honest for an American comedy. Theron earned a Golden Globe nomination for the performance. Watch Young Adult (2011) online on iFILM.
