Synopsis
Lady Bird (2017) is Greta Gerwig's coming-of-age comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM, her first film directing solo. The setting is Sacramento in the fall of 2002. Seventeen-year-old Christine refuses to answer to anything but the name she gave herself: Lady Bird.
It's senior year at a Catholic high school, and all she wants is to escape her hometown for somewhere with culture on the East Coast. Money is tight, her dad just lost his job, and every conversation with her mother (Laurie Metcalf) swings between love and open warfare. Around that orbit a first romance, a school play, a falling-out with her best friend, and the wrong crowd she tries too hard to impress. Saoirse Ronan leads, with Timothée Chalamet, Lucas Hedges and Beanie Feldstein.
Gerwig wrote the script almost as a love letter to the city she grew up in: funny, awkward, never sentimental. The film earned five Academy Award nominations and set a long-standing record for critical acclaim. It captures that exact age when you want to run from the people you love most.
