Jonas Kahnwald, played by Louis Hofmann, is the first to realise that 1953, 1986 and 2019 are not separate eras but a single tangled knot. Every character has a past self and a future self, and the choices made in one decade reach back — or forward — to wreck another. The premise sounds like a puzzle. It plays like a tragedy.
