Synopsis
Mary Queen of Scots (2018) is a historical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Josie Rourke directs Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie as two queens who share one island and refuse to share a crown.
Widowed in France at eighteen, Mary Stuart sails home to claim the Scottish throne. By blood she has a claim to England too — and that crown sits on her cousin Elizabeth's head. What follows is a long-distance rivalry fought through letters, ambassadors and flattery that hides a blade. Both courts seethe with plots. David Tennant plays the firebrand preacher John Knox; Guy Pearce and Gemma Chan move through a palace where a queen is just a piece on the board.
Rourke came to film from the stage, and it shows: the picture leans on its two leads, not on battle scenes. Their face-to-face meeting never happened in life — the writers invented it, and it lands. Alexandra Byrne's costumes earned an Oscar nomination. Stream Mary Queen of Scots (2018) online on iFILM.
