Synopsis
The Kings of Summer (2013) is Jordan Vogt-Roberts' coming-of-age comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Fed up with his controlling widowed dad, teenager Joe decides to spend the summer living by his own rules.
He drags along his best friend Patrick and a strange, deadpan kid named Biaggio to a hidden clearing in the woods, where the trio cobble together a house from scavenged junk. No parents, no chores anyone assigns them, food they catch themselves. At first it feels like paradise. Then adolescence shows up anyway, and a girl, wounded pride and plain stubbornness start cracking the friendship apart. Nick Robinson plays Joe, with Nick Offerman wonderfully dry as his father and Megan Mullally and Alison Brie among the parents.
Vogt-Roberts' debut premiered at Sundance, praised for its sun-soaked photography and the way it swings between goofy and aching. Look for early appearances from Lili Reinhart and Austin Abrams. Stream The Kings of Summer (2013) online on iFILM.
