Synopsis
We the Animals (2018) is the debut feature from director Jeremiah Zagar — watch online on iFILM. Adapted from Justin Torres' autobiographical novel, the film blends live action with hand-drawn animation shot by cinematographer Zak Mulligan.
Three brothers — Manny, Joel, and the youngest, Jonah — are growing up somewhere in rural America. Their parents love each other the way a fire loves a house: intensely and with damage. As the older brothers start to mirror their father's volatility, Jonah pulls in a different direction. He keeps a secret journal, builds a world inside his own head, and slowly realizes he doesn't fit the shape his family has made for him. Raúl Castillo and Sheila Vand play the parents; Evan Rosado carries Jonah across nearly every scene.
The film won the Founder's Award at Sundance in 2018. At 94 minutes it leaves no slack. Stream We the Animals (2018) on iFILM.
