Hotel Mumbai

Hotel Mumbai (2019) is a drama-thriller you can watch online on iFILM. It reconstructs the night of 26 November 2008, when armed gunmen forced their way into the luxury Taj Mahal Palace hotel and turned it into a trap.

Director Anthony Maras stages the siege almost in real time, from the point of view of the people locked inside. Waiter Arjun, played by Dev Patel, refuses to abandon the guests. Head chef Oberoi (Anupam Kher) keeps his staff together as gunfire moves down the corridors. Among the guests are a young couple played by Armie Hammer and Nazanin Boniadi, whose infant is stranded with a nanny on the far side of the building. The city has no unit able to storm the hotel, so rescue is hours away.

Maras shoots this less like an action film and more like a claustrophobic horror, refusing to flatten anyone into a cartoon. Jason Isaacs sharpens the tension as a Russian guest with a temper.
