Synopsis

Goya's Ghosts (2006) is a historical drama from Miloš Forman that you can watch online on iFILM. Set in Spain as the 1700s draw to a close, it follows court painter Francisco Goya as the Inquisition tightens its grip again.

Goya's favorite model, young Inés, is denounced to the church and locked away on a charge of heresy. Her desperate family begs the painter to step in. He turns to Brother Lorenzo, the zealous inquisitor he happens to be painting at the time. From there the story leaps across years and revolutions: governments fall, fortunes collapse, and yesterday's accuser ends up cornered himself. Natalie Portman plays a dual role, Javier Bardem is the slippery Lorenzo, and Stellan Skarsgård takes the part of Goya.

Forman, the director behind Amadeus and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, shot in Madrid and Toledo, drawing on the artist's own etchings and canvases. This is less a biopic than a study of how faith, fear and politics grind ordinary lives to dust. Stream Goya's Ghosts (2006) online on iFILM.
