Synopsis

The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996) is Miloš Forman's drama you can watch online on iFILM. It follows the scandalous publisher whose obscenity fight climbed all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Woody Harrelson plays a kid out of rural Kentucky who turns a grubby strip club into Hustler magazine. The louder the public howled, the harder the issues sold. Then comes the gunshot that puts Flynt in a wheelchair, a feud with a TV preacher, and a long court battle where the real stake is not a centerfold but the First Amendment. Courtney Love, as his wife Althea, plays it raw enough to make you forget her rock reputation. A young Edward Norton, in one of his earliest roles, handles the courtroom as Flynt's lawyer.

Forman, who made One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, sides not with the man but with an uncomfortable question: will you defend free speech even for someone you find repellent? The film took two Golden Globes and earned its director an Oscar nomination. Stream The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996) online on iFILM.
