Dragonfly

Joe buries himself in shifts at the children's cancer ward. Then his young patients start coming back from near-death moments with the same message: a wavy cross, talk of water, and dragonflies turning up everywhere Emily used to love them. His friends read it as a man cracking under grief. Joe reads it as his late wife reaching across the line. To learn what she needs, he has to travel back to the river where everything ended.

The film comes from Tom Shadyac, better known for his Jim Carrey comedies, working in a far quieter key here. Kathy Bates plays Joe's lawyer neighbor and Joe Morton stands by him.
