Synopsis

Oh, God! (1977) is an American fantasy comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director Carl Reiner cast George Burns as the Almighty — cap on his head, cigar in hand, looking like a mildly amused retired accountant who has seen everything twice. John Denver plays Jerry Lenz, an assistant grocery store manager chosen by God for no obvious reason.

The Almighty has a simple request: deliver a message to humanity. Jerry has a simpler one: be left alone. God is not persuaded. What follows is a dry, good-natured escalation as Jerry tries to convince his wife, his boss, a press conference, and a televangelist that he's genuinely been talking to the Supreme Being — and nobody believes him.

Burns earned a Golden Globe nomination for the role, and it's easy to see why: his God is gentle, wry, and entirely unimpressed by his own omnipotence. The film holds up better than most 1970s comedies because the comedy comes from character, not from period gags. Stream Oh, God! (1977) online on iFILM.
