Police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) is the first to read the signs: vanished water-skiers, a half-eaten whale washed ashore, a blurred photo of a fin. The town council and Mayor Vaughn refuse to listen, with peak season underway and panic bad for business. Brody is left almost alone with what he knows. His fears come true when a group of teenagers, his own sons among them, sail far out into open water. The cast also features Lorraine Gary, Murray Hamilton and a young Keith Gordon.
