About

Synopsis

J. Edgar (2011) is Clint Eastwood's biographical drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Leonardo DiCaprio plays J. Edgar Hoover, the man who ran the FBI for nearly fifty years and feared almost no one.

The film moves back and forth through Hoover's life. An aging Hoover dictates his memoirs to a young agent, and his version of events slowly comes apart. He outlasted eight presidents, chased Communists and kidnappers, and quietly kept files on anyone who crossed him. Close to him stand his loyal deputy Clyde Tolson (Armie Hammer), his devoted secretary Helen Gandy (Naomi Watts), and a domineering mother (Judi Dench) whose grip never loosens. Eastwood refuses to settle whether Hoover was a patriot or a tyrant, letting both versions sit side by side.

Written by Dustin Lance Black, the picture ages DiCaprio and Hammer across decades through heavy prosthetic work. It is part crime story, part history lesson about power, secrecy, and the price of staying in control. Stream J. Edgar (2011) online on iFILM.
