Synopsis

Bill Borgens (Greg Kinnear) is a successful novelist who still hasn't let go of his ex-wife Erica (Jennifer Connelly) three years after she walked out. He even sets her a place at the Thanksgiving table. His daughter Samantha (Lily Collins) has sold her first book and sworn off relationships, until a stubborn classmate refuses to give up. His teenage son Rusty wants to be a writer too and falls hard for a girl carrying her own troubles. Over a single year, the family cycles through breakups, fights and unexpected second chances.
Boone built the story around the idea that parents and kids can learn to love at once. Horror legend Stephen King turns up in a small role as Rusty's idol. With a warm, lightly melancholic mood and a strong cast, including Nat Wolff, Logan Lerman and Kristen Bell, it lands somewhere between a coming-of-age tale and a grown-up drama.
