Joker (2019) is Todd Phillips' crime drama you can watch online on iFILM. The Gotham of the early 1980s is filthy and mean. Arthur Fleck scrapes by as a party clown, looks after his sick mother and dreams of making people laugh from a stage.

Joaquin Phoenix plays a man the city grinds down piece by piece. Arthur is cursed with fits of uncontrollable laughter at the worst possible moments. His meds and his social worker vanish when the budget is cut. He gets mocked, beaten, ignored. His idol is late-night host Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro); his neighbor Sophie (Zazie Beetz) feels like the one bright spot. One humiliation at a time, the failed comedian discovers a different role, and it fits him.

This Warner Bros. release pulled a comic-book name off its usual track and turned it into a bleak character study with the fingerprints of Scorsese all over it.
