Daylight

Daylight (1996) is a disaster thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Rob Cohen and headlined by Sylvester Stallone. A chemical-truck blast seals both ends of a tunnel under the Hudson, trapping a dozen survivors below the river.

Kit Latura used to run New York's emergency rescue service. He lost the job after a call went wrong and his people died, so now he drives a cab. When the explosion buries the tunnel, the crews up top have no plan and no way in. Latura does. He climbs down through fans, flooding shafts and crushed concrete to lead the survivors out before the structure caves. Among them are an aspiring writer played by Amy Brenneman and a cocky athlete played by Viggo Mortensen.

Cohen built the film around practical effects, staging the fire, the rising water and the collapses on huge tunnel sets rather than with digital tricks. Just over two hours of close-quarters dread and a single ticking clock. Stream Daylight (1996) online on iFILM.
