Synopsis
Awakening the Zodiac (2017) is a Canadian crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Shane West and Leslie Bibb play a broke couple whose luck seems to change when they stumble onto something far more dangerous than a windfall.
Mick and Zoe are living paycheck to paycheck in a trailer. At an estate auction, Mick picks up a box of junk — inside are old film reels. They screen them and see a murder. A forensic contact confirms it: the footage matches the Zodiac Killer, who operated around San Francisco at the turn of the 1970s and was never caught. There is a $100,000 reward still outstanding. Instead of calling the police, the couple and their friend who runs a pawnshop decide to work the case themselves.
Director Jonathan Wright keeps the film grounded in how ordinary people misjudge risk when money is involved. It's not a procedural reconstruction of the Zodiac case — it's a thriller about three amateurs who think they have the upper hand until they very clearly don't.
