About

Synopsis

The Railway Man (2013) is Jonathan Teplitzky's historical drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Colin Firth plays a man who carried his captivity and torture quietly for decades.

Eric Lomax loves trains and timetables, and barely sleeps. As a young British officer he was taken prisoner in Southeast Asia and forced to lay track for the railway the Japanese army drove through the jungle; a hidden radio he built nearly cost him his life. Years on, married to Patti (Nicole Kidman), he learns that one of the men who broke him is alive and now guides tourists around the old camp. Lomax goes there, unsure whether he is after revenge or something harder to name.

The story comes from the real Lomax's own memoir. Stellan Skarsgard plays his wartime friend, Hiroyuki Sanada the aging Japanese interpreter on the other side of the wire, and Jeremy Irwin the younger Lomax. Filming spanned Scotland, Australia and Thailand, near the River Kwai. Stream The Railway Man (2013) online on iFILM.
