Synopsis

The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020) is Aaron Sorkin's courtroom drama you can watch online on iFILM. Eight activists end up in the dock after a demonstration against the Vietnam War collapses into a bloody street fight with Chicago police.

Prosecutors charge them with conspiring to incite a riot. The defendants can barely stand one another: there's the wisecracking yippie Abbie Hoffman, the buttoned-up pacifist Tom Hayden, and Black Panther leader Bobby Seale, who is denied a lawyer of his own. The judge openly tilts the bench toward the prosecution, and what should be a legal argument turns into a circus with free speech on the line.

Sorkin, the writer behind The Social Network, stepped behind the camera for the first time and assembled a heavy-hitting cast: Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Keaton. The dialogue comes at you in rapid bursts, and the closing scene lands hard. Stream The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020) online on iFILM.
