Pitch Black

Pitch Black (2000) is David Twohy's science-fiction thriller, free to watch online on iFILM. A transport ship breaks apart and slams down on a barren world lit by three suns at once.

Only a handful of crew and passengers crawl from the wreck. Among them are Carolyn Fry (Radha Mitchell), a pilot who nearly jettisoned the passenger cabin to save herself, and Riddick (Vin Diesel), a chained convict whose surgically altered eyes let him see in total dark. At first he's the one everyone fears. The real danger waits below ground, though: when the planet slides into a long eclipse and the light dies, swarms of winged predators pour out of their burrows, hunting anything warm. Daylight is the only shield left, and the survivors have to trust the one man they shouldn't.

Made on a lean budget, the film kicked off the whole Riddick franchise and turned Vin Diesel into a genre name. Twohy builds the dread on one blunt rule: stay in the light.
