About

Synopsis

Eight Below (2006) is a survival adventure from director Frank Marshall, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Antarctica, a research base, a storm closing in. Sled-dog guide Jerry Shepard (Paul Walker) has to leave his eight huskies chained at the station and fly out — for a couple of days, he assumes.

The rescue flight never comes. The dogs are on their own across the ice, with no humans and no food, facing a long polar winter alone. Much of the film runs nearly wordless: the camera stays with the pack as the animals hunt, fend off a leopard seal and keep each other alive. Back home, Jerry burns through favors and money trying to charter a plane and go back for them. Jason Biggs, Moon Bloodgood and Bruce Greenwood round out the human side.

The story draws on a real 1958 Japanese expedition, first dramatized in the film Antarctica. Marshall, the producer behind Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park, made a rare family movie where the leads barely speak and the tension rides on cold and loyalty. Stream Eight Below (2006) online on iFILM.
