Bumblebee

Bumblebee (2018) is Travis Knight's sci-fi adventure you can watch online on iFILM. California, 1987: a battle-scarred Autobot hides out in a seaside junkyard, disguised as a beat-up yellow VW Beetle.

Charlie, weeks shy of eighteen (Hailee Steinfeld), takes the rusted car home as a birthday gift and works out in her garage that it's alive. Bumblebee's memory is wiped and his voice box is wrecked, so he talks through snippets of radio songs. Trouble follows fast: two Decepticons want him dead, and Agent Burns (John Cena) leads a military unit that refuses to believe an alien robot could be on their side.

Knight came from the stop-motion house Laika and scaled the franchise back to something human — one girl, one robot, no three-hour wreckage. The story works as a prequel to the whole Transformers series, the soundtrack leans hard on '80s pop, and Peter Cullen returns to voice Optimus Prime. Stream Bumblebee online on iFILM.
