Roddy McDowall plays the ape who turns from frightened fugitive into the leader of an uprising, while Ricardo Montalban appears as a governor of the brutal regime.

Director J. Lee Thompson made the darkest, most openly political entry in the series, echoing the urban riots of the late 1960s and showing exactly how apes seized control of the planet.
