Synopsis
The Old Man and the Sea (1958) is an American drama directed by John Sturges that you can watch online on iFILM. Spencer Tracy plays Santiago, an aging Cuban fisherman who has gone nearly three months without a catch. The film is based on Ernest Hemingway's Pulitzer Prize-winning novella.
Santiago rows out alone into the Gulf Stream and hooks a massive marlin. The fish pulls his skiff for two days straight. He does not let go. For long stretches the film is just one man, the open water, and what he is thinking. Tracy carries it without theatrics — it is a performance built on exhaustion and stubborn pride.
