Synopsis
Robinson Crusoe (1954) is a Mexican-American adventure drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Luis Buñuel from Daniel Defoe's novel. It is an oddity in Buñuel's filmography — one of his rare genre pictures and among his first in colour — yet the surrealist instinct surfaces in the castaway's fever dreams and slow psychological unravelling. Dan O'Herlihy's performance earned him an Academy Award nomination.
After a shipwreck leaves him the sole survivor on a tropical island, Crusoe spends years building a life from nothing — shelter, crops, fire, a rough routine. Buñuel is less interested in the practical ingenuity than in what prolonged solitude does to a mind: the obsessive rituals, the hallucinations, the way time loses its shape. When Friday (Jaime Fernández) arrives, the dynamic shifts — but not into simple friendship. The film reads Defoe's story as a study of power, loneliness and the stories men tell themselves to keep going. Stream Robinson Crusoe (1954) online on iFILM.
