Synopsis

White Mischief (1987) is a British drama-thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Michael Radford and based on James Fox's non-fiction account of a real unsolved murder in British colonial Kenya. Greta Scacchi, Charles Dance and Joss Ackland head the cast, with a small role for a very young Hugh Grant.

The setting is the "Happy Valley" crowd — wealthy British expats farming the Kenyan highlands in 1940, throwing parties, swapping partners and generally treating the Second World War as something that happened to other people. Diana Broughton (Scacchi) arrives with her elderly husband Jock (Ackland) and almost immediately begins an affair with the colony's most sought-after seducer, Lord Erroll (Dance). When Erroll is found shot dead, the obvious suspect is Jock — but the evidence refuses to settle into a conviction.

Radford is less interested in the whodunit than in the colony itself: a bubble of privilege so sealed it barely registered the world collapsing around it. The real murder of Lord Erroll in 1941 was never officially solved. Stream White Mischief (1987) online on iFILM.
