Synopsis
Micmacs (2009) is Jean-Pierre Jeunet's oddball crime comedy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. A stray bullet catches Bazil, a video-store clerk, square in the head as he loiters in the shop doorway. From that absurd wound grows an even more absurd revenge.
Out of a job and a home, Bazil (Dany Boon) is taken in by a band of misfits living inside a junkyard. Among them: a human cannonball, a contortionist, a man who measures everything by eye, and a tinkerer who builds machines from scrap. Together they declare war on the country's two biggest arms makers, one of which forged the bullet in Bazil's skull and the other the landmine that killed his father. No guns on their side, just gadgets, traps and elaborate pranks.
Jeunet shoots in the same warm, handmade style as Amélie, full of amber light, retro props and whirring contraptions, with Thierry Arbogast behind the camera. Watch for a young Omar Sy in the troupe. The French title roughly means scheming and shenanigans, which fits perfectly. Stream Micmacs (2009) online on iFILM.
