Haywire

Haywire (2011) is Steven Soderbergh's stripped-down action thriller you can watch online on iFILM, starring real-world MMA fighter Gina Carano as covert operative Mallory Kane. The film opens mid-punch and never apologises for it.

Mallory runs black-ops assignments for a private contractor — Barcelona, Dublin, a hotel room in Geneva. After a mission to extract a kidnapped journalist, someone burns her cover from the inside. Now the people who hired her are hunting her. Ewan McGregor plays her employer Kenneth, Channing Tatum her former partner, Michael Fassbender a British intelligence contact who proves less neutral than advertised. Michael Douglas and Antonio Banderas orbit the conspiracy at a higher altitude.

Soderbergh stripped out the score almost entirely — no swelling brass to signal danger — and let David Holmes lay down a cool, percussive jazz track instead. The fights are shot wide and uncut, every impact landing on the actual body. Stream Haywire (2011) online on iFILM.
