Synopsis

My Sister's Keeper (2009) is Nick Cassavetes' drama you can watch online on iFILM. Eleven-year-old Anna was conceived through IVF for a single reason: to be a genetic donor for her older sister Kate, who has leukemia. One day Anna decides she no longer wants to give up her body.

Anna hires a lawyer (Alec Baldwin) and sues her parents for the right to make her own medical choices. Her mother Sara, a former attorney played by Cameron Diaz, will do anything to keep Kate alive and treats the lawsuit as a betrayal. The father, played by Jason Patric, is caught between his two daughters. Abigail Breslin plays Anna, Sofia Vassilieva the dying Kate. Behind the courtroom fight sits a question with no clean answer: can one child be used to save another.

The film is adapted from Jodi Picoult's novel and noticeably changes the book's ending. Cassavetes cares less about legal arguments than about what passes between the sisters at home, when no cameras or lawyers are around. It aims straight for the place that hurts most.
