About

Synopsis

Ladies in Lavender (2004) is a British drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Charles Dance and built around two performances that do most of their work in silence — Judi Dench and Maggie Smith as aging sisters in a quiet Cornish village.

After a coastal storm, the Widdington sisters find a young man half-dead on the beach below their house. Andrea is Polish, speaks no English, and turns out to be a violinist of rare talent. Nursing him back draws out feelings both women had long packed away. Daniel Brühl plays Andrea with a kind of bewildered gentleness, unaware of the disruption he causes simply by existing in their lives. When the artist Olga, played by Natasha McElhone, arrives and takes an interest in him, the fragile domestic order falls apart quietly.

Dance keeps the film small and unhurried, which is exactly the right choice — the story is about longing in old age, not spectacle. Stream Ladies in Lavender (2004) online on iFILM.
