Synopsis

The Emperor's Club (2002) — watch online on iFILM. Director Michael Hoffman's quiet American drama stars Kevin Kline as William Hundert, a devoted classics professor at a prestigious prep school, based on Ethan Canin's short story "The Palace Thief."

Hundert runs his classroom on principle: Latin, Greek, character. Then Sedgewick Bell arrives — a senator's son who plays by no one's rules. What starts as a clash of wills turns into something Hundert didn't expect. He bends his own standards for this difficult student, convinced he can reach him. Decades later, one reunion forces him to reckon with what that choice actually cost. The cast includes a young Emile Hirsch and Paul Dano.

This is a film about the quiet damage of a single compromise — not a feel-good teacher story, but a sharper, less comfortable one. Hoffman keeps the drama restrained and that restraint is precisely what lingers. Stream The Emperor's Club (2002) online on iFILM.
