Synopsis
Mortal Kombat (1995) is Paul W.S. Anderson's action-fantasy adaptation of the Midway arcade series — watch it online on iFILM. New Line Cinema and Threshold Entertainment backed the film with an $18 million budget; it returned over $122 million worldwide.
Three fighters arrive at a tournament held on a dark island at the edge of human reality. Shang Tsung, played with reptilian menace by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, has won nine straight tournaments for the Outworld. One more and Earth falls permanently under his emperor's rule. Liu Kang (Robin Shou) is there to avenge his brother. Sonya Blade (Bridgette Wilson-Sampras) is hunting a fugitive who slipped through her fingers. Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby) has something to prove to everyone who calls his fighting fake. Christopher Lambert plays Lord Raiden as an amused observer who steps in only when the rules demand it. Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Reptile round out a roster that fans of the game will clock immediately.
