Synopsis
Johnny Mad Dog (2008) is a war drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire and shot on location in Liberia with a cast of non-professional actors — several of whom had actually served as child soldiers. A Belgian-French co-production that refuses the comfortable remove of outside observation.
Johnny is fifteen, heavily armed, and leads a squad whose members go by names like No Good Advice, Little Devil, and Small Soldier. Running alongside his story is Laokole, sixteen, pushing her disabled father through the wreckage of their city while trying to get her younger brother out alive. The two storylines move toward each other with the logic of a siege.
Director Sauvaire strips out political context deliberately — no factions named, no ideology explained, no adult authority in sight. What remains is a film about children doing terrible things in a war that has no visible beginning or end. Bleak and almost ethnographic in its restraint.
