About

Synopsis

Glory (1989) is Edward Zwick's Civil War drama you can watch online on iFILM. It follows the 54th Massachusetts, one of the Union army's earliest regiments raised entirely from Black volunteers.

Young Colonel Robert Gould Shaw (Matthew Broderick) takes command of men whom much of the country refuses even to arm. Among them are Trip, a runaway slave with a chip on his shoulder (Denzel Washington), the steady gravedigger Rawlins (Morgan Freeman), the stammering Sharts and the bookish Searles. Boots never arrive, pay gets cut, and Shaw's own generals doubt these soldiers will ever reach a battlefield. Then comes the assault on Fort Wagner, where the regiment marches straight into the guns to prove it belongs.

The screenplay draws on Shaw's own letters and historians' accounts of 1863. The film won three Oscars, including Denzel Washington's first, and James Horner wrote the score. Stream Glory (1989) online on iFILM.
