About

Synopsis

Beneath Hill 60 (2010) is an Australian war drama directed by Jeremy Sims that you can watch online on iFILM. Based on actual events from 1916, the film follows a unit of Australian miners deployed beneath the Western Front — not to fight in the trenches, but to tunnel under enemy lines and detonate them from below.

Officer and former miner Oliver Woodward leads his men through narrow shafts dug under Hill 60 near Ypres, Belgium. The enemy is close enough to hear through the earth. Every shift brings the threat of collapse, gas, or a German counter-mine breaking through the wall. Brendan Cowell and Harrison Gilbertson head the cast in this claustrophobic, fact-based thriller about the war nobody saw.

The underground campaign of 1916 rarely makes it into mainstream war histories. Director Sims spent years researching diaries and military records to reconstruct what happened beneath those fields. Watch Beneath Hill 60 (2010) online on iFILM.
