Synopsis
The Possession (2012) is an Ole Bornedal horror film you can watch online on iFILM. A young girl buys an old carved box at a yard sale, with no idea that an ancient malevolent spirit is sealed inside it.
Recently divorced, Clyde takes his daughters Em and Hannah for the weekend. At a cheap sale, the younger one, Emily, begs him for a wooden chest covered in strange engraved markings. Soon she changes: she whispers to herself, guards the box obsessively, and lashes out at the people closest to her. When her father realizes this is something far darker than fallout from the divorce, he has to work with his ex-wife Stephanie to save their child. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick and Natasha Calis lead the cast.
The story draws on the legend of the dibbuk box, a Jewish vessel said to imprison a restless soul. A Hasidic musician, played by singer Matisyahu, steps in to help the family.
