Independence Day: Resurgence
We had twenty years to prepare. So did they.
Synopsis
Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) is Roland Emmerich's sci-fi action sequel, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Twenty years after the first invasion, the visitors are back — with a mothership wide enough to swallow an ocean.
Humanity used the gap well. Scientists reverse-engineered alien wreckage into a worldwide defense grid, mounted weapons on the Moon, and trained a fresh wave of pilots. Among them are hotshot Jake Morrison (Liam Hemsworth) and Dylan Hiller, son of the last war's hero. Jeff Goldblum returns as David Levinson, while former president Whitmore (Bill Pullman) starts hearing the enemy's voice in his skull again. Then the harvester ship touches down across half the Atlantic, and every plan goes out the window.
Emmerich, the go-to director for big-screen destruction, scales the chaos to planet level: gravity rips skyscrapers loose and drops them like toys. The cast also features Maika Monroe, Jessie Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Brent Spiner. A direct follow-up to the cult 1996 blockbuster, it plays as pure summer spectacle.
