Fonny (Stephan James), a sculptor who dreamed of his own studio, now counts the days until a child he may never hold as a free man. Brian Tyree Henry, Pedro Pascal and Diego Luna fill out the supporting roles.

The film adapts James Baldwin's 1974 novel, directed by the same Jenkins behind Moonlight. Regina King won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, and cinematographer James Laxton bathes Harlem in a warm, almost touchable glow.
