Synopsis
Melissa P. (2005) is a coming-of-age drama by Luca Guadagnino you can watch online on iFILM. On a quiet stretch of Sicilian coast, fifteen-year-old Melissa keeps a notebook full of things her family must never read.
She lives with her mother and grandmother and starts the film crushing on an older boy at school. That first infatuation pulls her much further than she planned. Melissa tests adulthood by trial and error, mistaking submission for desire, recording each encounter as if writing it down could keep her whole. Spanish actress Maria Valverde leads, with Geraldine Chaplin as the grandmother.
The story comes from Melissa Panarello's controversial autobiographical novel, a bestseller critics dubbed a Lolita for a new century. It is an early sketch of the bodily, adolescent themes Guadagnino would later refine in Call Me by Your Name. Stream Melissa P. (2005) online on iFILM.
