Tom (Harry Styles) is pulled between Marion (Emma Corrin) and museum curator Patrick (David Dawson). In a Britain where love between men is a crime, Tom hides the truth behind a marriage and a uniform. Forty years on, the older versions of the three are played by Linus Roache, Gina McKee and Rupert Everett: a stroke-stricken Patrick moves in with the couple, and an old wound reopens.
