Synopsis

Eighteen-year-old Maren (Taylor Russell) finally learns what her father spent years hiding: she has an urge to eat people. Left on her own, she drives across 1980s small-town America to find her mother and figure out who she is. On the way she meets Lee (Timothée Chalamet), another drifter living with the same hunger. They drift down empty highways and gas-station lots, fall for each other, and try to build a life by rules they invent as they go. Trailing them is Sully, an unsettling older man played by Mark Rylance.
Guadagnino turns what could have been a cannibal horror into a tender story about growing up as something the world calls monstrous. The cast includes Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny, with a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. It won Guadagnino the Silver Lion for directing at Venice.
